About the role

  • Private brand product development
  • Develop relationships with new suppliers globally
  • 12 months fixed term contract
This exciting fixed-term contract will drive private brand ranging and delivery including the continued improvement of direct sourcing at Officeworks. Managing vendor & agent performance, the project management process and speed to market, focus will be on developing commercial private brand ranges in collaboration with buyers that specifically target the agreed customer lenses, supporting agreed GMROI and stock turn targets, presented through the Range Review process.

This key role will support Buyers with the ongoing product range review process. The role works closely with the Merchandise and Brand Teams, ensuring effective communication with all supporting functions, sourcing agents, trading companies and factory direct suppliers. Monitoring key vendors and agents, this role will guarantee financial performance is achieved through global sourcing, ensuring projects are delivered to agreed timelines through effective project management and stakeholder engagement.

Key focus areas:
  • Brief, develop, source, negotiate, review and communicate a viable merchandise range
  • Proactively grow imports and private label brands, with a focus on direct suppliers and agents
  • Curate a range of merchandise with the buyers, that significantly improves financial metrics and meets the buyers’ expectations in terms of product, style, quality, brand and finish
  • Continued improvement in the product development process and final execution, ensuring product & packaging quality is fit for purpose and delivered on time.
  • Oversee and deliver all Globally Sourced import projects, ensuring optimal execution and mentoring other members of the Global Sourcing team
  • Ensure global sourcing Trade Practices Laws compliance and safety
  • Ensure all products sourced comply with Officeworks ethical and responsible sourcing policies
About you

This key opportunity in our growing Merchandise team will leverage established global sourcing experience within a large, retail/FMCG environment. Tertiary qualified in Commerce/Business, it is envisaged our successful candidate will have a solid understanding of international procurement, strong project management and process management.

Along with a good fashion sense, you enjoy staying on top of international trends and ideally have extensive sourcing experience. Your ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders is key for this integral sourcing role as is outstanding communication and ability to work autonomously within a talented and established merchandise network.

Key considerations:
  • Minimum 5 years buying experience and minimum 3 years direct importing with a large retailer
  • Tertiary Qualification in Business related discipline
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to engage and influence others
  • Advanced analytical capability with a high attention to detail and demonstrable initiative
Strong financial and commercial skills with sound knowledge of regulatory and statutory compliance
  • Intermediate competency with Microsoft Suite and Advanced Excel skills
