About the role:

As a key member of the Woolworths Supermarkets Stores Executive team, the State General Manager will play a critical role in building customer and team advocacy for Woolworths, the fresh food people in Queensland. You will lead our Queensland store team of 29,000 team members, and work in partnership with leaders across Woolworths Supermarkets, to deliver the next phase of our transformation. 

We are looking for an inspirational leader, who will live our purpose of ‘bringing a little good to everyone every day’, and bring their deep passion for our team and customers, to realise the many opportunities for positive change and impact we have across communities in Queensland. 

The position reports to the Director of Stores.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Lead our Queensland store teams, to deliver the next phase of our Supermarkets transformation, delivering on our transformation priorities across Queensland in partnership with leaders and teams across Woolworths Supermarkets
  • Coach and develop our Queensland store team to create a Customer 1st and Team 1st culture and live our purpose, agile ways of working and core values
  • Drive the annual operating plan priorities in Queensland, in particular around convenient and connected customer journeys in partnership with Woolies X; tailoring our stores to their local communities; transforming our fresh through end to end operating models; and simplifying the way we work including embedding good stock loss and inventory processes and simplifying end to end rostering
  • Strengthen our talent development processes in Queensland in partnership with People and Culture, to develop the next generation of retail leaders, including store leadership development pathways and championing diversity and an inclusive culture
  • Deliver the business scorecard focusing on VOC, VOT, Safety and Wellbeing, Sales and EBIT
  • Make decisions driven by data and insights, complemented by experience & intuition. Deliver in partnership by listening and co-creating with others to get things done. 
  • Proactively maintain and improve our reputation in Queensland, by ensuring adequate and relevant external stakeholders relations are in place.
  • Create the conditions for innovation by setting bold outcomes and priorities, empowering the team to deliver end to end through freedom in a framework, encouraging innovation and experimentation, and introducing agile practices into stores
  • Role model for ‘doing the right thing’, ensuring our stores deliver on our Food Safety, Safety and Wellbeing and Team compliance standards
  • Member of the Woolworths Supermarkets Stores Exec Team, partnering with your peers and leaders across Woolworths Supermarkets to jointly deliver on Supermarket transformation priorities 

About you:

  • Experience as part of a leadership team in a large scale retail/consumer business, including transformation experience due to industry disruption and/or strategic shifts
  • People leadership at scale, including energising through purpose, demonstrating care and building wellbeing 
  • Experience delivering customer, team and business impact through digital technologies and/or data analytics and insight 
  • Commercially astute, with experience delivering P&L outcomes, and balancing customer 1st team 1st approach with financial targets
  • Operationally resilient, with a proven track record of effectively implementing and executing business strategies in a fast paced, commercial retail context.
  • A demonstrated record of delivering results through others in a matrixed organisation of similar size and scale where you influenced outcomes without direct authority. Building genuine, respectful and trusting relationships and have the difficult conversations when needed 
  • Managed competing stakeholder demands and have developed an ease in senior forums
