Our aim in Metro is to deliver a shopper mission-focused experience targeting the convenience-oriented customer. Using two distinct formats, Metro Food Stores and Metro On the Go, we focus on delivering market leading fresh/prepared foods and a credible range of top up and mini shops. About the Role:
 
At Metro, we are constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers. To do this we are also evolving how we work together as a team. As the team progresses from Category led to a Mission led, the role of Category Manager - Metro will be to lead one of these Buying zones which you will tailor to the Metro customers unique shopping needs, whilst delivering to target on sales growth, profitability, differentiation and market share.
 
Working with Woolworths Food Company, new and existing Suppliers, The Category Manager - Metro will lead their team to deliver on the overall strategy of maintaining a 20% differentiation of range to the Food Group and being the true incubator of ideas and products that will go on to be shared with the wider Food Group. Metro Buying Zones are a blend of Fresh and Longlife products that come together effortlessly that make up the key customer missions of Metro.
 
Strong partnerships are required across multiple functions within the Woolworths Group including the Metro Store and Support teams, Woolworths Food Company development teams, Supermarkets Buying and the broader Food Group. These key relationships require an ability to operate in an agile environment, utilising strong influencing and collaborating skills.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience in developing high performing teams.
  • A successful track record of delivering commercial retail outcomes.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop winning category plans that deliver sustainable and long term category growth.
  • Experience in product development and small supplier onboarding.
  • Proven success in negotiating and influencing at all levels and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • A deep desire to Trust and Empower your team to achieve their personal and business objectives.
  • A proven track record to manage or develop product/category with sound business acumen.
